"Colie Brice is a true Gemini, a lefty chameleon, who produces extremely eclectic music that ranges from soothing new age blues to tightfisted face melting rock - often recording in manic/depressive bursts of crazy inspiration where he quickly improvises tracks like a one man band utilizing technology to capture the spirit of the moment via a creative approach he terms the Luna Muse Principle. With over 200 tracks at iTunes and other leading digital retail outlets, his vivid aural landscapes appeal to discerning listeners more interested in artistic authenticity than the pop flavor du jour." - AsburyMusician.com
A Review of Chameleon by Keith Hannaleck:
Colie Brice makes the title of this CD a reality. He shows you how he can change his color just like a "Chameleon" to suit all of the different genres he melds into his music.
Brice start things off with "Only Love Is Real." He sounds so much like the late John Lennon, it's haunting.
This man leads two separate lives. He is the head of marketing at Classic Records and an amazing musician, singer-songwriter when he is not caught up with his daily tasks at the label.
This entire CD has a mystical, rollicking, spiritual feel to it. Brice can rock, or show a gentle persuasive side with his voice and guitar. He very smartly remains restrained in order for people to receive the message he is attempting to deliver. More times than not, the message is heard loud and clear. "Relax" succeeds in doing just that; placing a positive thought in your mind and getting you to actually relax and find the humor in the voice inflection of Dr. Brice.
Towards the end, the consummate chameleon once again changes colors to fit the changing tide of emotions and thought. The epic "Mystical Music Tour" leads you down a varied path of musical expression for seventeen minutes, then Brice shouts to let you know its over. Is it though? After a few minutes of utter silence, the artist delivers a requiem for song and dance. It's as if to say...it's never over, and life is always subject to change at a moments notice.
A very interesting musical and lyrical stance is taken throughout the entire run of this recording. Musically this is very intelligent, and lyrically it's deep and introspective, while maintaining and undercurrent of unwavering humor. I really enjoyed the changing colors that Colie Brice went through on this CD.
A Review of New Age Blues by Keith Hannaleck:
Colie Brice is a multi-talented artist that has an appeal that will touch many and possibly anger others with his straightforward and real life lyrics (Evil Ways). On "New Age Blues" (1996) he lashes out in fury at those that are all talk and no action. I know one thing for sure¡¦he walks the talk. It comes forth in his music very strongly who he is and what he is about. Along the way he makes damned good music.
"Empowerment" is a spaced out intro to a by and large diverse approach featuring his many musical talents found in each song thereafter. "Set It Free" is a great instrumental track where Brice lets the music do the talking; he truly sets it free. Another instrumental number "Why" is a haunting world music number that is a total departure from the entire album. He always stands ready to surprise and amaze with his across the board talents as a musician, writer, and producer. This is an above average production and it shows what an immense solo artist that Colie Brice.
Colie is still an active musician and he works in public relations and marketing for Classic Records and for the fantastic new site TheMusic.com. His music is but one facet of his colorful and exciting life. If you like music that delves into experimental, rock, all out jams and thought provoking lyrics check out this CD.
