Acoustic Recordings

Acoustic Recordings We just posted our first acoustic recording on the webpage so be sure to take a listen. "On and On" is one of our favorite tunes to play and it's a song that has received a lot of positive feedback from you fans so we are pleased to be able to give you a recorded version at last. We intend to record it as a full band very soon - we will be heading into the studio again later this summer - but it's a great song that benefits from the acoustic medium in many ways.

Aaron commented at a recent practice how deconstructing the song for this recording has since helped him when we play it electrically. I agree with him. It's a great exercise to strip something down because it you learn more about the core elements. I've always felt that the best songs, rather than sacrificing their emotional strength, should actually enhance their impact with a minimalist performance.

Superfan Shayne Bell was excited to hear that we were doing some acoustic recordings because as she said, "I always like acoustic versions better." I usually do too. There's something to be said for simply hearing a variation on something familiar but I think it goes deeper than that. Few things are as stirring as one person's voice and their acoustic guitar. The raw quality of acoustic has a certain honesty that can't always be attained with effects pedals and layered instrumentation. There's a reason that the singer/songwriter genre is one brand of music that has never really gone out of style over the last 40 years.

We have decided to spend some additional time over the next few weeks/months with acoustic recordings. I'm glad that my 12-track is getting some use! We're about halfway finished with a version of "Exposed" so look for that later in June. Are there any of our songs in particular that you would like to hear performed acoustically? Let us know.
